"THE HUMAN CHARACTER BUILDER"

“THE HUMAN CHARACTER BUILDER”

I worked as a relief teacher at a secondary school for a short period of time. It was a challenging job and a eye opening experience. As a relief teacher, one need to prepare lesson, mark assignment papers, key results into system, re-set test paper and monitor student attendance records. My week- end normally end up doing all these administrative work.

The most difficult part of the job for me is to manage the class room, to make all pupils keep silent and still.

The school I worked had a wonderful systems to track student results. There are weekly teacher sharing sessions which I benefited a lot from it.

As there is a saying : to grow a tree, it takes ten years. To build a human character, it takes hundred years (十年树木,百年树人). Teacher also called the "The human spirit engineer", a direct translation from Chinese proverb:人类灵魂的工程师.

The picture shows my students and my daughter. My daughter taught them for two weeks.

During my primary schools days my teacher used to say that the teaching profession is a noble one, and I believe it still is. Every generation has its fair share of problems, nothwithstanding the present education system. My sister who is a retired teacher believes in motivating students no matter how difficult it is, but apparently she is quite successful in this area. Though she is now 60 yrs old, still many private tuition centres, including schools, are soughting for her services. All in all, I believe the teaching profession is not for the faint-hearted.
