$20K IDEA 两万元点子

I wish to quote Mr Peter Ho speech on public service 21 Century (PS21):

'The PUB $10k-Ideas Challenge is an example of how with sufficient empowerment, staff will surface good and worthwhile ideas.

PUB’s challenge to the staff was to generate at least 100 ideas in 6 months, with a total worth $10,000 in cost reduction or value creation.

With a default "yes”from the middle and senior management, officers are empowered to make the decision at their level, instead of seeking endorsement from management. There are no sacred cows. Ideas, as long as they are worth $10K, will be accepted by the middle managers and supported by senior management.
One simple and good idea which came out from the $10K Challenge was the changing of meeting points for the transfer of water samples and documents between Malaysia and Singapore.

Previously, PUB sent the samples and documents to Johor in a Singapore-registered van, but they had to pay a levy of RM$200 to do that. By simply changing the meeting point from Johor to Singapore, and using a Malaysian registered vehicle instead, PUB managed to save $20,000'.

Well done PUB staff!

When they use Malaysia vehicles, the LTA makes $20 per day per visit. Some more tax the Malaysians till they die!
