THE 5 "S "PROGRAMMES 五个S

I saw the article at the Brudiret web site. I found it was meaningful, so I posted it here for my readers.

5 ‘S’ Programme For Better Youths By Haji Mohd Zaide Haji Damit

Bandar Seri Begawan - The Sekolah Ugama PAP Amal Ummi Kalthum Al-Islam yesterday launched its Programme 5 `S' at the school compound in Mutant, Sengkurong.

The 5 `S' stand for Senyum (smile), Sapa (to greet), Salam (greetings),-Sopan and Santun (politeness).

Present at the event were the Director of Islamic Studies, the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Hjh Kasmah binti Hj Siput, religious teachers as well as the invited guests.

The guest of honour was Dato Paduka Ustaz Awang Hj Ishaaq bin Hj Abdullah, Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Religious Affairs.

The event began with a Quran recital read by Md Irfan bin Major (Rtd) Hj Abd Rahman followed by a welcome speech by Headmistress of PAP Amal Ummi Kalthum Al-Islam, Hjh Noorsiah binti Mohammad Noor.

In his speech, the guest of honour said that this programme (5 `S') should help discipline the youths from a young age and to be hard working and take interest in their studies, adding that it was absolutely vital for them to do well in their studies until tertiary level so that they would become good citizen.

He said, organising more co-curricular activities was one of the approaches to tackle indiscipline in schools as each cocurricular activity has its own objective which students have to achieve.
He also hoped that the 5 `S' programme would be introduced at all schools in the nation as part of the school curriculum.

After the launching, the guest of honour watched performances by the school children such as nasyid and hadrah.

Towards the end, the guest of honour officiated the "Taman Kenangan" at the Religious School PAP Amal Ummi Kalthum Al-Islam. -- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin

This 5s programme is entirely different from the 5s Japanese productivity concept. The borrowed term is used for promoting courtesy in school. Perhaps there is a similarity in using the alphabet 'S' to project the school emphasis of courtesy as part of their education.
