5S AT CARPARK 目视管理 5S Dipetak Letak Kereta

On 4 Jan 2008, I talked (blogged) about the "5S at the car park" where there were signs to show the total vacant lots and also the red and green lights to show availability of car park lots .

Last Saturday, I saw the colour code of parking areas at Suntec City. Beside using colour, there were animal to show your car park lot (see photos). It was another good 5S idea in action.

Thanks to the car park management. It will save motorists times in looking for vehicles.

This is a very ingenious way of doing things. Using of signs is the hallmark of kaizan principles. I also try to use signs by using removable stickers to prompt my family members to observe certain house-rules so as to get rid of bad habits. Apparently it is met with success. I also use stickers to mark the contents of items that are stored in unmarked plastic, glass or even metal containers which proved to be very useful to my family members.

Many people use kaizan ways unknowingly. Years back I suggested to my boss to place a stand-up concave mirror, costing about three hundred plus dollars at a blind corner of a road junction, enabling heavy container trucks passing each other safely. The truck drivers were able to see each other clearly through the mirror while passing each other (in the opposite direction). No reports of accidents after the mirror was installed.
