I attended a book reading sharing session on Thursday, 10 July. It was organised by a Chinese reading club. There were about 20 odd participants.
The facilitator was Ms Iris Peh. She was well prepared. Her PowerPoint slides were very professional. I heard that there were many rehearsals before she conducts the actual sharing.
The book she facilitated was called 亲爱的安德烈(Dear Andre). It was written by a famous Taiwanese who married to a German. It contained 36 letters that the author wrote to her son who was staying in Germany. In the letters, the mother and son discussed about love, moral, nation, values and culture etc.
I believe we all write letters or e mail to friends or relatives, but did any one of us think of putting them into a book and sell it? My point here was we should always look for idea and implement it. In Chinese, it mean 学以致用. Apply what you learnt!

The author (married to a German) who wrote letters to her sons. These letters were later compiled into a book. The story reminds me of ancient Japan where a mother would normally write a book to her daughter just about to get married - giving her guidance of how to be a good wife and daughter-in-law. Books are able to to be carried about and referred to when the needs arise, hence a useful communication tool and also a source of inspiration. If the book becomes famous, the author would have a good source of income. at the same time benefitting the readers.

I got another reade from Mutiply web site told me that she also wrote a lot of letters to the son. She wanted to publish a book on those letters but she was worried about the commond of the language skills. Finaly, nothing happened.
Any way, she thanked me for sharing.
