GARDEN CITY ?花园城市?Pusat Taman?

I took these two pictures while I was visiting my friend Zen at Ang Mo Kio.

It was obvious that some actions need to be taken. It was a bite of an eye sour in our beautiful garden city.

Sometimes it is not that the authorities are unaware of these unsightly objects being placed illegally in public places causing obstruction. The authorities can take the necessary action, but they also know that these ugly tables and chairs are used by elderly poor people to eke out a living by selling newspapers and magazines in the evening. So after finishing their business, where can they place their ugly 'furnitures'? - in the void deck? take them back to their flats by lift? Can they afford to pay rent for a place to sell their publications? - all not possible. In fact the authorities are compassionate enough to keep one eye closed, so that this lower income group can make a decent living, otherwise they may have to go to their MPs for assistance, whereby creating another different problem.

Actually this one is considered not so bad already. In many places, it is even worse. And sometimes even outside their own house some more.
