IMPROVEMENT AT TRAINING

I was conducting a programme at an overseas institute recently. I have spotted the following improvements at the training room:

1. A sign on No Mobile Phone and programme details
2. A standing orders for using the training room
3. A small bag contains of markers, key to the room, remote control
for LCD and note for user (See photos above).

The training is also equipped with training aids such as OHP, TV monitor, video cassette recorder and DVD player. There is also Internet connection in the room to make training up-to-date.

I wish to thank the staff who implemented these ideas.

This is a clear sign of improvement made through the implementation of 5S principles - uses of signs, good replacement, useful instructions, good planning, effective teaching aids carefully arranged for immediate uses, and so forth. If continuous improvement is being carried out, both in the area of hard or sofeware, however small it is, then institute will eventually emerge as a training centre of excellence, and would be highly respected in the country. However, I would say if this goal is pursued only half-heartedly, then success is most unlikely.

Dear Zen,
Thanks for your comments.
It was a project I undertaken. I gave them the ideas. They implement them.

Pehsk - It is heartening to note that the institute is quick to implement your suggestions, however, the institute should be a self-starter, meaning to enthuse all its staff to start contributing ideas on their own, not waiting for someone from outside to guide them. Of course, I do not mean that they should do away your useful service to them.
