MADE IN BRUNEI MOBILE PHONE

Brunei is making mobile phone! A idea put into implementation.

I read the news at http://www.brudirect.com/index.htm that Brunei is making mobile phone.

The photo above show the exchange of the signed MoU between DINA Group Brunei and Christel Technologies Singapore, officially witnessed by Hasri Md Nor,President of DINA Global
Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's efforts to diversify its economy took another interesting turn with a deal inked to launch a mobile phone manufacturing industry.

According to the report, the production will start in 2009. I believe there were plenty of work need to be done.

I do not think it is that difficult to set a plant producing mobile phones in Brunei, once the govt has issued the licence to do so. The plant there does not necessarily need to produce the parts, just assemble them will do, taking into consideration of increased labour cost there. Furthermore, Brunei has a small population, therefore a small plant is enough, by employing fewer skill workers, technicians and management staff. Since the factory is likely to be small, then why are foreign and local business groups so interested to venture in? My guess is that the the business is likely to be a sole operator in mobile phone production, without having to compete with rivals.
