SOFT POWER 软力量

Recently there were quite a number of articles talking about soft power. It referred to cultural power in changing things.

I hate violent especially war and demonstration. They destroy life and property.

I like the soft power of this picture. A group of Sikh from India was showing their soft power to the rulers. The were protesting their member being killed by others.

Well done the Sikh community.

Soft power is to project one's strenth through peaceful influence but it does not mean that a country which has assertive soft power (like China) should relax and neglects its defence force to protect itself. The Chinese use to say: "To use diplomacy first before resorting to force". Countries governed by dictators are very agressive towards weaker nations, good examples were Nazi Germany and the Military govt of Japan in WWII. Diplomatic means failed to prevent these dictators from waging wars on weaker nations. Why does Singapore a small peaceful country spends about 10 percent of its GDP on defence? It is because we want to tell the world that although we are a small nation but we have a great capacity to defend ourselves, so that bigger countries have to think twice before 'climbing over our heads'.

Dear Zen,
Thanks for your comments.
I agreed what you said.
Beside the soft power, we must also have the real stuff.
