I have the impression that the only country in Asia owns bullet train was Japan. It was proven wrong when I visited Beijing recently.
I travelled the bullet train from Beijing to Tianjin. It took me less than 30 minutes to reach there. The speed was 350 km/hr. The trains was very clean and efficient. There were magazines provided for the passengers to read. No time was wasted during the journey.
The bullet train will be linked to MRT country- wide soon. It will be very convenient for the travellers.
Seeing is believing. The Chinese has made a lot of progress in public transportation systems. It was worth the effort to visit Beijing if you have not been there for more than three years.

This shows that we should all read more widely outside our own areas of interests to know more about the world and how other nations affect us.
If we think China is very backward and lacks of high technology, we can't be more wrong.
China is now the 3rd country to send astronauts or taikongnauts up into space. Its semiconductor wafer technology will soon overtake Singapore and eventually become the world's no. 1 semiconductor manufacturer.
The no. 1 and no.2 are now in Taiwan, and no. 3 used to be Singapore (Chartered Semiconductor) but has since then overtaken by South Korea.
The progress of a nation is not measured by its technological advance only. If that is the case, then the US is streets ahead of other nations - already sent a man to the moon some thirty over years ago (1969?), and is currently has a presence in Mars vide robotic devices. But look at its negative side - a gun totting culture, muscling around poorer nations, drug problems, a culture subscribing to violence, great social divide between the rich and poor, deteriorating education system - even wanting to educate their kids in maths using the Singapore way,
single parents, incredible divorce rate and many other negative attributes. Now the whole world is in fact placing the blame of the current financial meltdown squarely on past US excesses, notwithstanding its presidents. In my personal view, the greatness of nation lies in the progress made both in the technological advance and balanced equally by the social civility of its people. In other words, it cannot be only measured by using a one way street - it needs to have a two-way traffic.
Dear freinds,
Thanks for your comments.
