TRAVELLING TIMES

We all know that in work study, travelling or transportation activity is considered waste as it does not add value to the products or services unless you are in the transport businesses.

Recently my wife and I went to Orlando of USA to attend a convention on world languages expo. The travelling time was 28 hours.

How to eliminate this waste ? I do not have the answer. May be my reader can suggest ideas for improvement.

I agree that travelling in whatever mode uses up time, but whether it is wasted time or not is highly debatable. Currently air travel is the fastest and the most efficient but still it takes twenty over hours covering half the globe. Any solution? I could not think of any but maybe in the future we can travel by planes using rocket propulsion. The once expensive produced concorde plane (flying twice the speed of sound) did shorten traveling time considerably but with limited seating capacity and therefore traveling in it was a very costly affair. For economical reason, the concorde ceased production and was subsequently scapped. If physical presence of executives is not required in meetings, companies nowadays would conduct them through video conferencing which saves cost and time. In fact conference world lanuages expo presentation can be video recorded and send to interested parties to view, but then people like to be present in it physically, so as to enjoy the actual sight and sound the expo. No choice, there is a price to pay for things we want, and that includes our personal time - whether we like it or not.

Take the flight that arrives in the day, you sleep on the flight. When you reach there you save one day! But that is provided you can sleep on the plane...

Jet travel not only wastes time, but it also burns a lot of fuel and gives out much CO2, and contributes to global warming, and therefore frowned upon in these days of political correctness and green movement.

Jet travel maybe minimised thru internet technology - web-conferencing.

To build rapport, however, we still need face-to-face meetings, and for sightseeing, we still like to see and experience the sights, sounds and smells of the world attractions first-hand, rather than on tv, HD or not.
