The school I taught celebrated Chinese New Year (CNY) on Friday , 23 Jan 2009. It was a wonderful celebration. Parents were invited to join the fun. The were lion dance, pupils performance, Chinese culture dancing.
All students enjoyed the show.
I had observed that there were two good points:
1 English sub- title was projected to help the non-Chinese speaking students to understand the show.
2 Feedback form was given to parents to get comments and suggestions. (See above photos)
My only comment was the form may include a row on (optional) : Name and contact number of the person who complete the form so that the school can follow-up and thank the contributor.

Such cultural performance should be encouraged in all Singapore schools and it would be much better if children of other races, namely Indians and Malays, could also participate in it, testifying that we all are living in a multi-racial society. Only a few days back I saw an Indian girl dressed in chinese 'chi pao' walking with her mother in an HDB void deck. The girl appeared enjoying her new dress and her mother being proud of her outfit. If a black man with a historical link to a slave ancestory, by the name of Obama, can become the 44th president of the united states, it is time for the world to sit up and acknowledge that race should not be a hindrance to a person of minority race aspirating to lead his country. The choice of the Americans shatters the myth of only a 'bumi' (so-called son of the soil) has the devine right to be the head of state of a country.
