NEWS ON SPEAK MANDARIN CAMPAIGN

I blogged about Speak Mandarin Campaign on Saturday (10 Jun 2009). The Straits Times, Zao Bao and My paper reported the event (see newspaper cutting) on the following day.

There were three difference versions. I was lucky that I can read Chinese. I knew what was reported.

It was a good idea to learn Chinese so that you will not misled by the reporters. By the way, there were a series of workshops on talks to promote learning the language.

Most of the younger generation of Singaporeans are educated in English and Chinese, hence reading the Chinese newspapers should not be a problem. The success of the campaign, after a period of more than ten years, is in my opinion, quite good, but still has room for improvement. It all depends on our attitude towards the campaign.
