白士德, The reporter from Zao Bao reported on 3 Jan 2009 that he has chosen the word 稳(stable) as the Chinese word to represent Singapore for 2008. In his article, he kept talking about what the Singapore government or PM had done for the people ( see newspaper cutting). There were four Chinese words to describe the article : 歌功颂德 !
I disagreed with what he said. How many people felt 2008 was a stable year？ Perhaps the only one was the reporter himself. Yes, he was right. It was only his feeling.
Zao Bao should follow Straits Times by providing the email address of the reporter so that the reader can send comments or disagreement.

I agree with your observation. The only thing stable applies to the ruling party, the govt and the political climate. As for social environment, things are far from rosy. The country economy is heading south. There are currently many problems that need to be resolved, just to name a few: increasing unemployment, poor business climate, increasing medical, transport and utility bills, an aging population facing an uncertain future. So the word 'stable' should not be used to summarise the general mood of the country.
