I use to take public transport. One of the frustrated thing I faced was I don’t know when the buses will come.
As a customers, beside knowing the cost you need to pay for the services or goods, we also deserve to know the lead time for receiving the services or goods.
I saw a sign board at Orchard road as well at Ang Mo Kio. It shows the bus arriving time and the nest arriving time (see photo). It was a very useful tool to give passenger an estimated time for arriving.
Thanks to the people who implemented this. The concern now was to fine tune it, to make it more accurate rather than just estimation, It was in line with the spirit of continuous improvements.
The next question I may ask was why only at Orchard road and Ang Mo Kio?

I believe this monitoring system is being tested out at Ochard Rd and AMK to find out the response from the public. Judging from the numerous bus stops all over the island it is not practical to install the monitors at all bus stops, not only the cost factor but the usefullness to cater to every location. I think even if the system is successful, only selected spots would be considered.
Dear Zen,
Thanks for your comments.
What I am talking about is continous improvement in our daily life.
Peh - You are correct to point out continous improvement in the bus monitoring system. We must also aware of the fact that in the process of making improvements there are many problems to be overcome. Therefore it is of utmost importance to solve these problems so that the improvement can happen. It is like a doctor trying to cure his patient's illness. Unless the doctor can diagnose the cause of his patient's illness he cannot prescibe the correct medicine to cure it. In other words, continuous improvement cannot just happen automatically by itself. A lot of work needs to be done for this improvement to happen. Another way to look at it is that pointing out an improvement that has already happened is easy, but trying to work out how to improve things is really difficult, that is why people who are able to solve problems are rewarded. People should be encouraged to make their own improvement continuously, no matter how small, in their daily life, and not to leave others to solve their problems.
